“Devi” was painted based on a dream of visiting the Devi Koti Temple in District Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. Durga, or Devi, is inspired entirely from the epic battle portrayed on the wall murals of the temple. The border draws from the wood carvings from the ceiling panels of the temple.
